The world record attempt, spearheaded by Jon Montgomery on behalf of Movember, involved launching a human mustache via a high altitude balloon, which reached an altitude of 35,237.62 meters on the 22nd of September 2024. Verified by the World Record Certification Agency (WRCA), the attempt successfully set a world record for the "Highest Altitude Reached by a Human Mustache Using a Balloon".
In October 2024, Canadian Olympic champion and TV host Jon Montgomery, in collaboration with Movember Canada, sent his mustache into space to raise awareness of men's health issues. With the help of the company "Send My Stuff To Space," which specializes in launching personal items into space, Montgomery's mustache was sealed in an acrylic container and lifted to an altitude of 116,000 feet (about 35,000 meters) into the stratosphere.
Montgomery noted that participating in this campaign was an obvious choice for him, especially after his father successfully underwent treatment for prostate cancer in 2016. He emphasized the importance of raising awareness about men's health and set a goal to raise at least $3,000 as part of the Movember campaign.
Movember is an annual campaign held in November to raise awareness of men's health issues such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and suicide prevention. Participants, known as "Mo Bros," grow mustaches throughout the month to stimulate discussion on these topics and raise funds for relevant programs and research.
Jon Montgomery's initiative of sending his mustache into space became a creative way to draw attention to important men's health issues and support the Movember initiative.
